Department: Power Marketing and Origination

Job Type: Full-time

AMPYR Energy USA (AMPYR) is seeking a Director of Origination & Power Marketing to join our North American team focused on the rapidly growing energy sector.

This position will actively undertake market and customer outreach to originate offtake opportunities and manage customer relationships. The role will have significant focus on the SERC, WECC, ERCOT, CAISO, and PJM markets. The Director will interact with external stakeholders including customers, intermediaries, consultants, and offtake advisors, and will work closely with internal teams to create value for the existing project pipeline. Responsibilities include conducting customer research, understanding market regulatory constructs for C&I offtake, contributing to offtake strategies for the existing project pipeline and greenfield development, and supporting due diligence efforts for M&A opportunities involving Solar PV, hybrid (PV + BESS), standalone BESS, and other energy projects.

This position reports to the Vice President of Power Marketing and Origination and offers the opportunity to work in a high-growth environment with a clear path for career development.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Originate offtake opportunities through customer outreach campaigns driven by systematic research and market analysis.

  • Independently identify and assess power offtake leads through direct prospecting and networking efforts while developing long-term client relationships in the renewable energy sector. This includes identifying RFP opportunities and originating bilateral PPA targets outside formal RFP processes.

  • Conduct market research and engage with market participants to develop informed views on energy, REC, and capacity pricing in various ISO and non-ISO markets.

  • Review and articulate demand signals in regulated markets by analyzing integrated resource plans, macroeconomic-driven load growth, and corporate sustainability procurement plans.

  • Support the company’s power offtake strategy for individual projects by creating revenue strategies to maximize project value and implementing financeable offtake structures.

  • Remain informed of various offtake structures and advise on their suitability for individual projects within the development pipeline (e.g., physical PPAs, virtual PPAs, utility-sleeved transactions, capacity contracts, tolling agreements, etc.).

  • Collaborate with the VP of Power Marketing to position projects that have matured sufficiently in the development process for offtake opportunities.

  • Coordinate internally with development, legal, finance, and technical teams to prepare and submit offtake proposals in response to RFPs.

  • Support due diligence for project acquisition opportunities by assessing offtake feasibility at project locations and providing pricing inputs for financial modeling.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business or technical discipline required; MBA preferred.

  • At least 10 years of overall business experience in the energy industry, including 3–5 years in origination or sales of project offtake (energy, RECs, and capacity).

  • Established relationships with potential offtakers, buyers, customers, and PPA counterparties (corporates, munis, co-ops, CCAs, IOUs, etc.).

  • Strong understanding of U.S. power markets and the ability to evaluate and provide insights into evolving market conditions.

  • Deep knowledge of power market concepts including physical and virtual PPAs, hedges, curtailment, SCED analysis, basis risk, resource adequacy, deliverability, and power/commodity price curves.

  • Proficiency with standard business software applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) and the ability to manage spreadsheets, word processing, networking, and email programs effectively.

Competencies

The following skills, knowledge, and attributes are essential for success in this role:

  • Ability to work efficiently, diligently, and effectively to rapidly accomplish key responsibilities.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and organizational skills.

  • Strong cross-cultural relationship-building and influencing skills at all organizational levels.

  • Flexible, cooperative, and team-oriented with a well-developed collaborative spirit.
