Development Director

AMPYR Energy USA (AMPYR) is seeking a Development Director to join our team in North America focusing on the rapidly growing renewable energy sector.

This position leads development of multiple Solar PV and hybrid (PV + BESS) projects in the western markets. This position is focused on development activities in the CAISO, WECC and ERCOT. Job responsibilities will include leading project strategies, development through project lifecycle, and budgetary accountability for pipeline projects. This person will lead and interact with internal team members and external project development partners on making project decisions, tracking and reporting project schedules, budgets, spend and other critical development matters. Additionally, this person will undertake research, analyses and support workstreams on land, grid, regulatory framework, permitting regime, local incentives, abatements, and support making necessary project filings. Successful applicants will have experience in project development and project management with an ability to research and present data. Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead project development strategies, create, review and own project reports, summary of deliverables, budgets, schedules, contracts, and other documents for active projects.
  • Maintain project accountability with respect to all project development matters including land, grid, and permitting matters, including negotiations of various underlying agreements.
  • Move projects from inception to NTP across various stages of development while de-risking the projects and creating value.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders including offtake, legal, technical, financial, real estate, permitting and other advisors to achieve project success.
  • Support creation of investment committee memos for decision making and necessary budgetary approvals.
  • Maintain project spend as approved, undertake development within schedules while actively managing development risk.
  • Interface with external project development partners to coordinate on project deliverables under development agreements, including timelines, spend, project documents, and data rooms.
  • Implement and maintain project development and management platform for tracking and reporting project and pipeline level spend, progress, and critical matters.
  • Interface internally with Finance and Accounts on pipeline spend projections, budgets and variance, various project payment obligations, and associated management reporting.
  • Support prospecting analytics and project origination activities by being responsible for and researching and gathering critical data on markets and projects, energy infrastructure, land, grid, regulatory framework, permitting regime, local/state/ federal incentives and abatements, in order to efficiently screen and rank order project opportunities.
  • With the help of team members, create pipeline decision documents to justify incremental spend on each project, and support ongoing project development strategy.
  • Mentor junior development staff.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, or major in energy related field or Energy Development education and background
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in renewable energy project development environment
  • Hands on experience in the CAISO, WECC and ERCOT markets
  • Experience with permitting projects on BLM land is a must.
  • Have created, reviewed, and participated in management of contracts, schedules, budgets

  • Excellent computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. and the ability to effectively work on spreadsheets, word processing, networking, and e-mail programs.
